social media runs the world.

People watching isn't something that I do intentionally, but it happens. I swear I find myself observing how everyone interacts with others or just how they are carrying themselves. I pay close attention to people's body language and for some reason I try to figure out random stuff abut them. I may sound weird AF and you may be judging me off of this, but like I said its unintentional. "What does social media and me people watching have to do with each other," is what you are asking yourself right now. As I was walking home from class today, I saw this kid snapchatting or I assume that he was snapchatting. When he looked up and saw that I had saw him do it, he looked beyond embarrassed. The kid seriously looked like I had just seen him trip and fall or something else super traumatic. The reason that I found this so interesting is because we as a society, all use social media. We use these apps all day and everyday but for some reason we all tend to try and hide the fact that we are using it.

Being in college, you see the same thing that I saw today. You constantly see people walking and snapchatting or taking pictures in general. When we all do it, we try to remain discrete and don't want anyone to see us doing it. Yet, we are posting it on our stories to show everyone that we are snapchatting? It literally makes no sense. If you are walking around campus and you see someone snapchatting you are going to pass judgement on them and not in a positive way. We ALL sit there and are like "wow, look at them! they are snapping right now. That's weird." This literally is blowing my mind, mainly because our society is so FUCKED. Excuse my language, but that's really the only thing that I can say to explain it and my frustration. We all do so much to stay relevant but we judge others when they are doing the same exact thing that we are doing. From personal experience, there is no way in the world that I would sit in out in front of the library and take selfies the same way that I would in my room. It's awkward and I know people would look at me and think I'm cocky. The same people will go on my Instagram and like all my pictures but if they were to see me take them in public I'd get funny looks? I can't say that I don't participate in this issue. Once, I was sitting by the pool and saw this girl in the window (that's where the best lighting is) taking selfies for like fifteen minutes. Mind you I do the same exact thing but I was laughing at her, judging her, and thinking it was the strangest thing in the world. We all have the same goals when we post on social media, to get likes, gain followers, be noticed in general.

That brings me to my next point about the oh, so glamorized instagram fame. This is something that is constantly mocked and ridiculed in our society. These people who are instagram famous, who do you think made them famous? We did, the same people who are sitting and talking shit about them, I guarantee have contributed to some of their thousands of likes. Most of the people who are isntagram famous we follow them because they take risk. They post whatever they want and most of us want to witness that when they do. We are all just trying to keep up and stay informed in these random peoples lives. In my personal opinion, I feel that everyone who uses social media faithfully wants some type of instagram fame or internet fame in general. Whether to have the ability to say that you are or to make money from it. It's like, if you say you want to be the next internet sensation, its frowned upon and people will make fun of you. Let's say that you do become internet famous, those same people are going to think you are super popping and going to start asking you for shoutouts. I just really don't understand peoples logic and whats okay and what's not.

I think I have struggled the most with having to find whats appropriate and whats not appropriate to post on my social media sites. Over the last year, I have definitely changed a lot. I feel that it is me finding myself and figuring out what I want in life. My followers are drastic mix between people I actually know and people who just follow me for the heck of it. I know I get judged ten times harder by the people I grew up with, mainly because they know the old me. They know that Kaleb that is quiet, introverted, and super self conscious about everything. I love all my new friends and followers because they love and support me no matter what. I applaud every instagram model our there with thousands and millions of followers because you truly have to have tough skin. I truly believe we live in the weirdest society ever. Things that everyone does is frowned upon if you do it out in public for people to see but if you do it behind closed doors its okay. It makes no sense and just makes me want to pull my hair out. I don't want this blog post to inform you of anything, my goal is to open peoples eyes to see the bigger picture in all aspects of life. I try to live a lifestyle where I will never pass any judgement on anyone until I truly know them and I feel like if everyone lived this way we would be more successful as society and all truly live happily ever after.
